Position Overview: The Bassik Lab at Stanford University is in search of a Life Science Research Professional 2 to play a vital role within a dynamic research team focused on pioneering genetic methodologies. This includes the development of advanced CRISPR/Cas9 libraries aimed at conducting genetic investigations across various medically significant domains, including oncology, neurodegenerative disorders, and infectious diseases.

Research Objectives: The primary aim of this research is twofold: (1) to elucidate the mechanisms underlying cancer progression and identify innovative therapeutic targets, and (2) to investigate the functionality of macrophage cells in the immune response against diverse pathogens, including protein aggregates and tumor cells.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform cell culture and maintain human cell lines.
  • Execute fundamental molecular biology techniques, including PCR, cloning, and gel electrophoresis.
  • Utilize flow cytometry and prepare samples for deep sequencing.
  • Conduct confocal microscopy and basic statistical analyses.
  • Stay updated with scientific literature and contribute innovative ideas and methodologies to the lab.
  • Participate in lab meetings and journal clubs.
  • Independently manage a segment of research projects and provide recommendations on experimental designs to the principal investigator.
  • Develop new research protocols when existing literature is insufficient or requires adaptation.
  • Oversee supply and equipment budgets under the guidance of the principal investigator or business manager.
  • Supervise staff or students as necessary, offering guidance on techniques and project work.
  • Maintain laboratory stock, manage chemical inventories, and uphold safety records.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in Biology, Bioengineering, Genetics, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related scientific discipline is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in basic molecular biology techniques and possess experience with high-throughput sequencing, fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, and computer programming.

Experience Requirements: A Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific field accompanied by two years of pertinent work experience, or a Master's degree in a related scientific area is required. A comprehensive understanding of scientific principles and general computer skills is essential.

Physical Requirements: The role may involve frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting objects over 40 pounds. Occasional tasks may require sitting, kneeling, or reaching above shoulder height.

Work Environment: The position may necessitate working in environments where hazardous materials or infectious agents are present. Employees are expected to utilize personal protective equipment as required.
