Stanford University is on the lookout for a Research Scientist in Life Sciences to contribute to the advancement of a pooled cell engineering platform utilizing single-cell genomics and high-throughput gene delivery methodologies.

This role will be part of a collaborative project within Stanford Medicine Catalyst.

Stanford Medicine Catalyst represents a strategic partnership among Stanford's School of Medicine, Stanford Health Care, and Stanford Children's Health, serving as the premier innovation initiative to aid inventors within the Stanford community in the development and acceleration of their most promising health innovations.


Key Responsibilities:

Engage with a team of passionate researchers at the forefront of single-cell biology and cell engineering to create a therapeutic screening platform.

Collaborate with colleagues in the construction and sequencing of single-cell transcriptomic and epigenetic libraries. Execute laboratory experiments that involve the isolation and culture of immune cells derived from primary human blood products. Transform and cultivate bacterial stocks for the purpose of isolating recombinant plasmid DNA. Conduct intricate laboratory experiments to collect data for a segment of an innovative combinatorial screening initiative. Participate in multidisciplinary teams across various faculties or schools.

Continuously review scientific literature to stay updated with new methodologies and relevant research; apply findings to ongoing research and the development of new protocols.

Contribute significantly to the preparation of manuscripts for publication, particularly in the results section, and to the dissemination of research findings. Present ongoing research to peers and at academic conferences. - Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
Education & Experience (Required): Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Required):
  • In-depth understanding of scientific principles.
  • Proficient computer skills with the ability to quickly learn and master various software programs, databases, and scientific applications.
  • Strong analytical capabilities and sound judgment.
  • Ability to maintain meticulous records of experiments and outcomes.
  • Capability to work under deadlines with general guidance is essential.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a proven ability to accurately complete detailed tasks.

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, perform fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, engage in desk-based computer tasks, use a telephone, write by hand, lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing over 40 pounds.
  • Occasionally sit, kneel, crawl, reach, and work above shoulder level, sort, and file paperwork or components.
  • Rarely climb, scrub, sweep, mop, chop, mix, or operate hand and foot controls.
  • Must have correctable vision to perform job duties.
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, stand, reach above shoulder level, and move on hard surfaces for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Capability to work in environments that may be dusty, dirty, or odorous.
  • Position may require repetitive motions.
  • Adjustments to physical requirements may be made based on specific job needs.

Working Conditions:

  • May involve working in close proximity to blood-borne pathogens.
  • Position may occasionally require working with or in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious diseases are present.
  • Employee must perform tasks requiring the use of personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses, protective clothing, gloves, and possibly a respirator.
