This includes the development of advanced CRISPR/Cas9 libraries aimed at executing genetic screenings across various medically significant domains, such as oncology, neurobiology, and infectious diseases.

Research Objectives: The primary aims of this initiative are twofold: (1) to elucidate the mechanisms underlying cancer progression and to pinpoint innovative therapeutic targets, and (2) to investigate the role of macrophage cells in the immune response, particularly in their ability to identify and eliminate diverse pathogens, including protein aggregates and cancer cells.

Candidate Profile: The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative research environment, demonstrate exceptional organizational skills, possess a passion for problem-solving, and exhibit strong communication abilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct cell culture and maintain human cell lines.
  • Perform essential molecular biology techniques such as PCR, cloning, and gel electrophoresis.
  • Utilize flow cytometry and prepare samples for deep sequencing.
  • Engage in confocal microscopy and execute basic statistical analyses.
  • Stay updated with scientific literature and contribute innovative ideas and methodologies to the lab.
  • Attend lab meetings and participate in journal clubs.
  • Independently manage specific segments of research projects, offering insights on experimental designs and research trajectories.
  • Develop new research protocols when existing literature lacks adequate descriptions or requires modifications.
  • Present research findings to peers and at academic conferences.
  • Oversee laboratory supplies and equipment budgets under the guidance of the principal investigator.
  • Supervise and mentor staff or students as necessary, providing direction on techniques and project work.
  • Maintain laboratory inventory, manage chemical safety records, and support general lab operations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Bioengineering, Genetics, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field is preferred.
  • Proficiency in fundamental molecular biology techniques, including gel electrophoresis and PCR.
  • Experience with high-throughput sequencing, fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, and lentivirus handling.
  • Strong understanding of scientific principles and the ability to quickly adapt to new software and scientific applications.

Physical Requirements: The role may require frequent standing, walking, and the ability to lift and carry objects weighing over 40 pounds. Candidates should be prepared to work in environments where hazardous materials may be present and must adhere to safety protocols.

Commitment to Diversity: Stanford University is dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment and encourages applications from individuals of diverse backgrounds.
