The Mullally Lab at Stanford University is in search of a Life Science Research Professional 2 to engage in intricate functions and activities associated with designated research initiatives, while independently executing a segment of the research projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently manage a segment of the research projects, providing insights on experimental frameworks and research trajectories to the principal investigator.
  • Conduct sophisticated laboratory experiments to collect data for a significant research initiative.
    Analyze and interpret results, often in the absence of established guidelines, and refine existing methods and protocols as necessary.
  • Formulate new research protocols when existing literature lacks appropriate guidelines or when adaptations of standard procedures are required.
  • Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams across various faculties or schools.
  • Engage in continuous literature reviews to stay updated with novel procedures and related research; apply findings to ongoing research and the development of new protocols.
  • Contribute significantly to the drafting of manuscripts for publication, particularly in the results section, and present ongoing research at academic conferences.
  • Oversee (formally or informally) staff or students as needed, providing guidance on techniques and consultation on project work. Act as a technical resource for fellow research personnel.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in hematology research, particularly focused on blood cancers.

Education & Experience (Required):

  • MD or Ph.D. in biomedical life sciences is mandatory.

  • Thorough understanding of scientific principles.
  • Proficient computer skills with the ability to quickly learn and master scientific applications and databases.
  • Strong analytical capabilities and sound judgment.
  • Ability to maintain meticulous records of experiments and their outcomes.
  • Capacity to work under deadlines with general guidance is essential.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with a proven ability to accurately complete detailed tasks.
  • Expertise in laboratory-based research, particularly in molecular and cellular biology techniques.
  • Proficiency in flow cytometry, functional genomics, and experience with mouse models.
  • High competency in data analysis, generating demonstrable research outcomes, and effectively presenting findings to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated scientific creativity, productivity, and independence in work.
  • Ability to mentor and train junior colleagues, students, and research technicians.
  • Capacity to collaborate and work closely with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to contribute to research grant applications and write manuscripts for publication.
  • Independent thinking and the ability to develop novel hypotheses for testing.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent standing, walking, twisting, bending, stooping, squatting, and performing desk-based computer tasks.
  • Occasional sitting, kneeling, crawling, reaching, and sorting paperwork.
  • Must have correctable vision to perform job duties.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in environments that may be dusty, dirty, or odorous.

Working Conditions:

  • May involve exposure to blood borne pathogens.
  • May require work in settings where animals are utilized for research and teaching.
  • Tasks may necessitate the use of personal protective equipment.

Compensation:

The anticipated salary range for this position is between $71,000 and $88,000 annually, based on various factors including the scope of responsibilities and the qualifications of the selected candidate.
