About the Role:
The Advanced Life Sciences Research Specialist will be responsible for delivering specialized histology support to various Anatomic Pathology faculty and their collaborators across multiple departments within the School of Medicine.

Key Responsibilities:
- Independently execute a portion of the research projects.
- Provide recommendations on experimental design and research direction to the principal investigator.
- Conduct complex laboratory experiments to collect data for significant research projects.
- Analyze and interpret results, often in situations with limited guidelines, and adjust existing procedures and protocols as necessary.
- Develop new research protocols when appropriate literature is lacking or when modifications to standard procedures are required.
- Engage in multidisciplinary collaborations across different faculties or schools.
- Conduct ongoing literature reviews to stay current with new methodologies and related research, applying findings to ongoing projects and the development of new protocols.
- Oversee supply and equipment budgets under the guidance of the principal investigator or business manager.
- Collaborate with the health and safety department to ensure laboratory compliance with regulations and required training.
- Supervise staff or students as needed, providing guidance on techniques and project work.

Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with histologic and immunohistologic techniques, including microdissection of sensitive tumor samples, tissue processing, tissue microarray construction, and in situ hybridization.
- Background in a specialized clinical or research laboratory focused on tissue techniques and immunohistochemistry is highly desirable.

Education & Experience:
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific field with two years of pertinent work experience; or a Master's degree in a related scientific discipline.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Comprehensive understanding of scientific principles.
- Proficient computer skills with the ability to quickly learn and master various software applications, databases, and scientific tools.
- Strong analytical skills and sound judgment.
- Ability to maintain meticulous records of experiments and outcomes.
- Capability to work under deadlines with general guidance.
- Excellent organizational skills and a proven ability to complete detailed tasks accurately.

Physical Requirements:
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting of objects over 40 pounds.
- Occasional sitting, kneeling, and reaching above shoulder level.
- Must have correctable vision to perform job duties effectively.

Working Conditions:
- May involve working near bloodborne pathogens and in environments where animals are utilized for research and teaching.
- Tasks may require the use of personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, gloves, and protective clothing.
