Position Title: Prevention Specialist

Role Summary: The Prevention Specialist is responsible for engaging with children and adolescents aged 6-17, implementing the Curriculum-Based Support Group (CBSG) Program. This role involves delivering educational sessions on substance use prevention, promoting positive mental health practices, and facilitating activities that nurture supportive relationships.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the Curriculum-Based Support Group Program for small groups of students at various locations.
  2. Conduct informative presentations on alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use for diverse audiences.
  3. Identify potential issues, consult with relevant parties, and provide necessary referrals.
  4. Assist in organizing community health fairs and educational assemblies.
  5. Engage in activities that promote mental and behavioral wellness through positive adult interactions.
  6. Maintain collaborative relationships with schools, shelters, and community organizations.
  7. Document service activities and implement evaluation processes through participant assessments.
  8. Collect and manage participant data, ensuring accurate record-keeping.
  9. Participate actively in community coalitions and committees.
  10. Support program managers in preparing reports as required.
  11. Attend regular team and networking meetings.
  12. Contribute to community tobacco compliance initiatives.
  13. Uphold participant confidentiality and adhere to privacy policies.
  14. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in social work, human services, counseling, or education is preferred.
  2. At least 2 years of relevant experience working with children and youth.
  3. Bilingual Spanish speaker is preferred.
  4. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required.
  5. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  6. Experience working with diverse populations and knowledge of trauma-informed care.
  7. Certifications such as Advanced Certified Prevention Specialist (ACPS) or Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) are preferred.

Working Environment:
