Overview

As a vital member of the Dallas County Juvenile Probation Department, the Youth Recreation Program Manager is responsible for overseeing and facilitating engaging recreational activities for young individuals in pre/post adjudication facilities.

Key Responsibilities

This role involves providing supervision and support to youth, ensuring that rehabilitation efforts are prioritized. The manager will maintain comprehensive records of all interactions with participants, including program documentation, attendance, and progress assessments.

Additionally, the manager will assess the recreational needs and interests of the youth to develop tailored program activities that promote engagement and personal growth.

Responsibilities also include overseeing the upkeep and proper use of recreational equipment, ensuring safety protocols are followed, and providing training on equipment usage.

Engagement with program participants will occur in various formats, including one-on-one interactions, small group activities, and larger events, fostering mentorship and guidance.

The manager will also play a key role in training facility staff to effectively implement recreational programs and may serve as a backup for essential duties, including administering medications and processing intake assessments.

Grant Research and Reporting

In addition to program management, the Youth Recreation Program Manager will research funding opportunities and assist in drafting grant proposals to secure additional resources for recreational activities.

Participation in team meetings is essential to review progress and share important information that supports the needs of the youth.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess a Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Health and Human Performance, or a related field, along with at least one year of experience in supervising recreational activities for youth.

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential for building effective relationships with colleagues and the community.

Certification in First Aid/CPR is required within the first 90 days of employment, along with compliance with facility-specific certification standards.

Physical fitness is necessary to perform scheduled activities and manage behavior effectively, including the use of approved restraint techniques.

Additional Requirements
  • Must have a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record.
  • Successful completion of a background investigation and drug testing is mandatory.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment, including potential mandatory overtime and shift changes.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age and meet all training and certification requirements.

This position requires resilience and a high tolerance for working in emotionally challenging environments, with a focus on the well-being and rehabilitation of youth.
