Overview

The Youth Rehabilitation Officer plays a crucial role in providing professional case management, oversight, counseling, and support services aimed at rehabilitating young offenders under the jurisdiction of the Juvenile Department.

This position encompasses a variety of responsibilities, including conducting intake assessments, performing risk evaluations, and engaging in crisis intervention and case planning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure appropriate resources are allocated to meet the immediate needs of youths and their families.
  • Supervise and provide services to youths, focusing on rehabilitation and community safety.
  • Conduct comprehensive intake and risk assessments to determine suitable levels of supervision and intervention programs.
  • Collaborate with family members, educational staff, and community partners to tailor services to the specific needs of each youth.
  • Design treatment plans addressing educational needs, substance abuse issues, and other behavioral concerns.
  • Provide counseling to youths and their families regarding behavior, responsibilities, and goal setting.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of casework interactions, progress, and challenges to ensure compliance with policies and effective case management.
  • Act as a liaison with various agencies, including schools and law enforcement, to facilitate support for youths.
  • Respond to emergencies and supervise youths in secure settings, adhering to all relevant laws and procedures.
  • Participate in ongoing training and departmental meetings.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Criminology, Social Work, Psychology, or a related discipline is required. Experience in case management, counseling, or juvenile services is preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient in standard software applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with colleagues and the public.
  • Must obtain certification as a Probation Officer within six months of hire and pass a thorough background check.
  • A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is necessary.
  • Willingness to undergo mandatory drug testing and adhere to random testing protocols during employment.

Work Environment:

This position involves working in a secure facility with potential exposure to various health risks. The role requires physical capability to manage and restrain youths when necessary. Employees may be required to work overtime or shifts that extend beyond regular hours.

Employees may also be reassigned to different departments or shifts based on organizational needs.
