This role focuses on equipping families with essential skills to enhance resilience, foster family connections, and promote positive mental health.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Family Services Specialist will engage directly with youth aged 6-17 and their guardians, facilitating weekly sessions based on the Strengthening Families program. Responsibilities include delivering educational workshops aimed at preventing substance use, providing resources for mental and behavioral health improvement, and organizing activities that strengthen family ties.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead small group sessions utilizing the Strengthening Families curriculum for both children and parents at various community locations.
- Conduct presentations on the prevention of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use for diverse audiences.
- Evaluate potential issues, consult with relevant stakeholders, and provide necessary referrals.
- Assist in planning and executing community health fairs and informational events.
- Facilitate engaging activities that promote positive interactions between parents and children.
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with community partners, including shelters and social service agencies.
- Document all interactions and maintain accurate records of program activities.
- Collect and analyze participant data to assess program effectiveness.
- Participate actively in community coalitions and committees.
IDEAL CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES:
- Strong commitment to the mission of supporting families in need.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with a knack for connecting with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
- A Bachelor's Degree in social work, human services, counseling, or education is preferred.
- At least three years of experience working with families from low-income backgrounds.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care and community-based services is essential.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Regular travel within the community is required.
