Position Overview
As an Entry-Level Juvenile Detention Officer, you will play a crucial role in providing direct oversight to young individuals within a 24-hour detention environment.

Key Responsibilities
Your primary duties will include daily supervision of youths, ensuring their health, safety, and welfare while adhering to departmental policies and established standards. You will also provide both individual and group counseling to enhance personal accountability and awareness of alternatives.

Crisis Management
In situations of crisis or potential danger, you will be expected to make sound judgments and decisions, documenting actions taken and informing supervisors of any significant issues encountered.

Disciplinary Actions
Enforcement of facility rules is essential, and you will document behaviors and incidents, forwarding relevant information to appropriate personnel.

Physical Engagement
Your role may require restraining, pursuing, or transporting youths as necessary. Regular inspections, rounds, and drills, including room checks and physical searches, will also be part of your responsibilities.

Program Coordination
You will be responsible for organizing and facilitating daily educational and recreational activities for the youths.

Qualifications
To qualify, you must have graduated from an accredited high school or possess a GED. Additionally, three years of relevant work experience or 45 college credit hours in a related field is required.

Skills and Certifications
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential for establishing effective relationships with colleagues and the public. You must obtain First Aid/CPR certification within 90 days of hire and meet all certification requirements within six months. A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is also necessary, along with passing a comprehensive background check and mandatory drug testing.

Work Environment
This position involves working in a secure facility with potential exposure to various health risks. You should be prepared for the physical demands of the job, including the ability to restrain or chase youths when required.
