Position Overview
As a seasoned Juvenile Detention Officer, you will play a vital role in overseeing and guiding youths within a 24-hour detention center. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the safety, health, and well-being of each individual in accordance with established departmental policies and standards.

Key Responsibilities
Provide direct supervision to youths in a secure facility, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and protocols. Engage in both individual and group counseling sessions to foster personal growth and awareness of responsibilities among the youths.

Make informed and judicious decisions during emergencies or high-risk situations, while keeping your supervisor informed of any issues and documenting all actions taken.

Enforce facility rules and maintain discipline among the youths, accurately documenting behaviors and incidents for further review by appropriate personnel.

Act as a support resource for fellow staff members, taking on various duties as needed, including administering medications, transporting youths to appointments, conducting intake assessments, and managing disciplinary actions.

Be physically prepared to implement safety techniques, including physical restraint methods as required by the governing body.

Conduct regular inspections, rounds, and drills, which include room checks and physical searches of the youths. Facilitate and coordinate daily educational and recreational activities to promote engagement and development.

Qualifications
Education and experience equivalent to an Associate's degree from an accredited institution in fields such as Criminology, Corrections, Counseling, Law, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or related disciplines. A minimum of one year of relevant work experience is required.

Essential Skills and Requirements
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with colleagues and the public. Obtain First Aid/CPR Certification within 90 days of employment and meet certification requirements as mandated by facility standards within six months.

Possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record and successfully pass a comprehensive background check. Mandatory drug testing will be conducted prior to employment, with ongoing random testing throughout your tenure.

Working Conditions
This position involves working in a secure environment with potential exposure to various health risks. The ability to physically restrain and pursue youths may be necessary. Transportation of youths may also be required.
