Role Overview

As a Technical Services Field Engineer specializing in Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), you will provide expert engineering support to clients and field teams. Your role will involve troubleshooting, diagnostics, and ensuring optimal performance of VFD systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the factory expert for VFD products, advising clients and internal engineers on technical issues.
  • Utilize remote diagnostic tools to analyze and resolve equipment failures.
  • Offer technical assistance to clients and colleagues when not on-site.
  • Conduct commissioning, installations, quality checks, and performance evaluations of VFD systems.
  • Identify and rectify issues, including repairing or replacing faulty components.
  • Communicate any hardware, software, or design deficiencies to the factory and implement corrective measures as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records in the client relationship management (CRM) system for timely reporting.
  • Prepare and distribute Service Advisories to clients and field engineers as required.
  • Draft and review field reports for client distribution.
  • Uphold safety qualifications relevant to assigned tasks and adhere to safety protocols.
  • Manage warranty replacements efficiently.
  • Provide after-hours support for client issues on a rotating basis.
  • Investigate field change suggestions and report findings to the parent company.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in field engineering or customer support related to AC and DC Variable Frequency Drives.
  • Strong understanding of power conversion principles.
  • Proven experience in configuring and tuning digital and analog control systems.
  • Established successful relationships with clients and suppliers.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement in responsibilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work at heights up to 175 feet.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, approximately 35% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience in field engineering or customer support for AC and DC Variable Frequency Drives.
  • Expertise in PLC systems from manufacturers such as Toshiba, GE, Rockwell, and Mitsubishi Electric.
  • Experience with A/C and DC drive systems, including various legacy models.
  • Field engineering experience in industries such as metals rolling or container crane systems.
  • Background in controls engineering.
  • Knowledge of LAN Topology for various communication protocols.
