Position Overview:

The Senior Vice President of Strategic Partnerships is tasked with overseeing the formulation, assessment, negotiation, and implementation of BeiGene's strategic partnership initiatives. This encompasses collaborations, licensing agreements, joint ventures, investments, mergers, and acquisitions that align with the overarching corporate strategy, business objectives, and product portfolio. This role involves leading a high-performing team dedicated to managing the process from opportunity identification through to transaction execution, while playing a pivotal role in evaluating, structuring, negotiating, and finalizing these strategic engagements that support the company's growth ambitions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Report directly to the Senior Vice President of Business Development, spearheading transaction activities for BeiGene's interests in North America and globally for M&A.
  • Contribute as a lead or team member in transactions across various regions as needed.
  • Focus primarily on oncology, with transactions ranging from early-stage research to commercial opportunities.
  • Lead and manage a North American-focused business development team.
  • Identify innovative growth opportunities that align with BeiGene's strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with search experts to pinpoint opportunities in oncology and other therapeutic areas.
  • Utilize an extensive industry network to uncover the most promising partnership prospects.
  • Lead senior cross-functional teams, ensuring unbiased information is presented to senior management for informed decision-making.
  • Provide expertise in designing partnership structures tailored to specific collaboration needs.
  • Exhibit exceptional transaction skills throughout the deal-making process to secure advantageous agreements.
  • Continuously monitor the external business landscape and maintain a comprehensive knowledge base of licensing transactions and company activities.
  • Encourage contributions from colleagues across scientific, legal, intellectual property, finance, communication, and commercial sectors, leading negotiations on term sheets and contracts.
  • Promote BeiGene as the preferred partner at business development meetings and scientific conferences.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree with over 15 years of industry experience, including at least 6 years in Business Development within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology sectors, or in Venture Capital or investment banking.
  • Scientific expertise in drug development, with a solid understanding of assets involved in deals and alliances.
  • Proven success in sourcing, structuring, negotiating, and closing various types of partnerships, from discovery stage assets to commercialization.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management capabilities.
  • Experience leading international, global, and cross-functional teams, along with strategic corporate initiatives.
  • Strong project management skills, with a focus on effective decision-making and issue resolution.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of multitasking and performing under pressure to meet demanding deadlines.
  • Outstanding time management abilities, consistently delivering high-quality work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Established network of contacts within key academic institutions, biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, and the venture capital community.
  • Ability to work efficiently and proactively as part of a global team across various innovation hubs.
  • Capacity to synthesize and present complex information (scientific, clinical, financial, and market data) to senior executives, including the Board, to facilitate decision-making.
  • Exceptional presentation and communication skills.
  • A passion for driving projects to successful conclusions.
  • Experience thriving in a fast-paced, multicultural, global organization where cross-boundary collaboration and influence are essential for success.
  • Self-motivated and professional, representing BeiGene positively in the market.
  • Strong scientific background, enabling effective interaction with the biotech and pharmaceutical ecosystem to evaluate scientific opportunities.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Manage a team of 3 within the United States.

Travel Requirements:

20%-30% travel may be necessary.
