POSITION OVERVIEW
The Aim High organization is a transformative summer enrichment initiative designed for students entering grades 6 through 9, particularly those facing systemic challenges in California.

Provided at no expense to participants and their families for up to four consecutive summers, Aim High empowers middle school students to enhance their academic self-esteem, cultivate a passion for learning, and acquire essential skills for success in both educational and life pursuits.

Since its inception in 1986, Aim High has grown from a single site in San Francisco serving just 50 students to a robust program that spans the Bay Area, reaching as far north as Napa, east to Tahoe-Truckee, and south to San José. This past summer, Aim High operated 16 sites, positively impacting approximately two thousand students.


Headquartered in San Francisco, the organization’s management team and central office staff engage regularly throughout the year.

In addition to hundreds of seasonal employees, Aim High maintains a dedicated full-time team of about 20-25 members, guided by a newly appointed chief executive officer with extensive experience in the organization.

With an annual budget nearing $7 million, primarily sourced from donations, grants, and partnerships, Aim High enjoys a strong financial standing, boasting $20 million in net assets and no debt.

Aim High is currently in search of a dynamic and community-focused Senior Vice President of Philanthropy to join its leadership team. This role encompasses the oversight of all philanthropic initiatives, which serve as the principal revenue stream for the organization. The Senior Vice President will report directly to the CEO and lead a dedicated team of development professionals.

Initial responsibilities will involve fostering relationships with Aim High's staff, current donors, and potential supporters, while collaborating closely with the CEO to effectively communicate Aim High's mission and impact to the wider community.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Philanthropic Leadership
Formulate and implement a comprehensive philanthropic strategy aimed at amplifying Aim High's influence through a genuine, community-centered, and relational methodology.

Advise the CEO on both strategic and tactical fundraising initiatives.

Collaborate with the CEO, Board, and leadership team to devise a sustainable long-term plan for the organization.

Support the strategic vision of Aim High while exploring innovative avenues to enhance impact and diversify fundraising efforts.

Utilize current and emerging technologies to bolster donor engagement and outreach initiatives.

Donor Engagement
Enhance Aim High's visibility by expanding the network of major gift donors and nurturing existing donor relationships.


Work in tandem with development and program teams to orchestrate fundraising events, including donor receptions and special gatherings.

Ensure timely and accurate reporting of revenue and donor contributions for both individual and institutional supporters.


Build meaningful connections with donors, alumni, students, and other stakeholders to authentically convey Aim High's impact.


Organizational Leadership
Act as a senior leader within the organization, actively participating in the leadership team.

Oversee, mentor, and manage the development team, which may include recruiting additional staff as needed.


Ensure the development team is well-equipped with the necessary resources, tools, and systems to achieve their objectives.

Assess and analyze team performance through a thoughtful approach to performance metrics that serve as opportunities for coaching.

Report directly to the CEO and undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; further training or certifications in relevant fields is preferred.

Experience: A minimum of 5 years in development, fundraising, or mission-driven philanthropy, with a proven track record of successful fundraising and team leadership.

Skills: Familiarity with community-oriented philanthropy and a diverse range of fundraising strategies, including major gifts, foundation support, special events, and community partnerships.

Leadership: A successful track record in managing teams and fostering professional growth among team members.
