The ideal candidate will ideally be based in the San Francisco Bay Area, with a willingness to travel regularly to our headquarters. Please note that this role is not available for 100% remote work.

Role Overview

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Senior Vice President of Finance will collaborate with the executive leadership team and board of directors to manage risks and seize opportunities that enhance shareholder value and foster sustainable growth, aligning with Backblaze's strategic goals.

The SVP of Finance will oversee investor relations, corporate development, financial planning and analysis, controllership, treasury and risk management, tax, information technology, internal audit, and facilities management. This leader will work closely with the business to develop and implement financial strategies, driving continuous improvement alongside the senior executive team. Integrity, influential interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and a proven track record in team leadership and development are essential for this role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a strategic partner to the CEO, providing insights and guidance on all aspects of strategic planning, risk management, and financial leadership with a focus on growth and operational efficiency.
  • Oversee comprehensive financial management, IT, and facilities operations, including financial planning, budgeting, tax strategy, capital allocation, internal audit, and strategic financial analysis.
  • Lead the execution of financial strategies that support the company's overarching strategic and operational objectives.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with the Board of Directors and the Audit Committee.
  • Communicate financial matters effectively with senior management and the Board, ensuring transparency with investors, analysts, and external stakeholders.
  • Engage with investors to articulate company strategy, vision, and direction, while addressing inquiries appropriately.
  • Collaborate with the business to enhance forecasting and analytics, operational performance, and implement best-in-class processes.
  • Build, develop, and retain a high-performing finance team.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and best practices throughout the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including FASB, GAAP, SOX, and SEC regulations.
  • Oversee the timely preparation and review of financial statements, including 10Q's, 10K's, and 8K's.
  • Prepare for the transition from Emerging Growth Company (EGC) status, ensuring readiness in people, systems, and processes.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be a highly qualified financial executive with extensive experience in finance and operations within a respected, complex, and international business environment. The successful candidate will possess a low ego and high emotional intelligence, thriving in an open, collaborative, and transparent work culture.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or a related field; an MBA and/or CPA is advantageous.
  • A proven history of success as a Corporate CFO in a publicly traded technology firm or a closely related market.
  • Experience in the technology sector, particularly with cloud platforms, IaaS, and SaaS, as well as subscription-based and consumption business models.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure beyond pure software.
  • Experience collaborating with investment bankers and audit firms to formulate and execute financing and growth strategies, including M&A and strategic partnerships.
  • Extensive experience working with Finance and/or Audit Committees of a Board of Directors.
  • Capital markets experience with a strong reputation for excellence on Wall Street.
  • Strategic focus with an emphasis on long-term planning and continuous business development.
  • Operational success in driving results while maintaining organizational productivity.
  • Experience in developing and leading a high-performance finance organization.
