REPORTS TO:
Parts Manager, or as designated by the Retail Facility

MANAGEMENT/ BUSINESS SKILLS REQUIRED:
Ability to greet customers, build rapport, and identify and address customer needs
Understanding of automotive systems
Proficiency in monitoring inventory to identify parts needing special orders
Familiarity with parts counter protocols, including prepayment for special orders
Capability to search for part numbers or utilize computer systems and standard catalogs
Skill in tracking inventory levels and determining reorder needs
Ability to accurately monitor parts
Capability to track lost sales for inventory management
Assistance to the Parts Manager in resolving discrepancies between computer records and actual inventory
Knowledge of special ordering procedures for unique parts
Ability to recognize and confirm receipt of warranty parts

WORK ORIENTATION FACTORS:
Frequent interaction with personnel across all retail facility departments.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Parts Counterperson:
Plays a crucial role in managing inventory and ordering parts while striving to fulfill customer needs.
Gathers necessary information for special orders and ensures accurate parts delivery.

Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, establishing connections with customers both in person and over the phone, while asking insightful questions to locate required parts or services and related offerings.

Must be knowledgeable about inventory levels, reordering needs, and special order processes. Aids the manager in reconciling discrepancies between digital inventory records and physical stock.

Conducts research on part availability, whether within the retail facility or through external sources, and utilizes computer systems or standard catalogs to locate part numbers.

Stays informed about seasonal parts requirements and those arising from recalls or promotions in the Service Department.

The Parts Counterperson:
Possesses a general understanding of automotive systems.

Capable of utilizing inventory data on a computer interface and locating parts by verifying part numbers and checking bins.

Must communicate effectively in person and via phone, demonstrating a willingness to initiate contact with customers to exchange information.

Must be attentive to sales opportunities by engaging customers with questions and providing relevant information about parts and services.

Is able to collaborate effectively with all departments within the retail facility.
Demonstrates the ability to work independently, managing time and workflow efficiently.

What the Work Is Like:

The work of the Parts Counterperson:
Requires attention to detail as this individual maintains, monitors, and continually updates the parts inventory for the retail facility.

Involves frequent data entry and verification of inventory through physical checks of parts in storage.

Includes over-the-counter sales of parts and special orders for customers and the Service Department or Body Shop.

Ensures timely arrival of parts, verifies their accuracy, and communicates with those who placed orders regarding their status.
