Job Overview

Position Title: Support Assistant (Permanent Supportive Housing)

Location: Chief Seattle Club

Reports to: Program Manager

Compensation: Starting at $21.58 per hour

Work Schedule: Full-time, with varying shifts including Day, Swing, or Graveyard (additional $2/hour for Graveyard shifts). Weekend or holiday work may be required.

Position Summary:

Chief Seattle Club is dedicated to providing stable, affordable, and supportive housing primarily for Native American and Alaska Native individuals. Our housing initiatives include Sacred Medicine House, ál?al, Goldfinch Elders' Housing, and Salmonberry Lofts. In addition to housing, we offer comprehensive support services aimed at fostering healthy and sustainable living for our residents.

The Support Assistant collaborates closely with Case Managers and residents to enhance the living experience at our housing facilities, ensuring culturally relevant support services are provided.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Foster a safe and healthy community environment by engaging with residents and promoting positive interactions.
  • Uphold trauma-informed care principles in all interactions.
  • Monitor security systems to maintain the safety of the premises.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the facility and report any maintenance issues.
  • Build rapport with residents and manage visitor sign-in procedures.
  • Oversee daily operations, including maintenance tasks and safety protocols.
  • Maintain inventory of cleaning and maintenance supplies, communicating needs to management.
  • Document property inspections and coordinate necessary repairs.
  • Participate in community events and staff meetings.
  • Organize and manage incoming donations.
  • Supervise resident activities and maintain daily logs.
  • Assist case managers and housing specialists as needed.
  • Enforce organizational policies and procedures in accordance with program guidelines.
  • Provide administrative support as required.
  • Ensure completion of daily and weekly cleaning tasks.
  • Offer guidance to residents and address their inquiries.
  • Implement consequences for non-compliance among residents when necessary.
  • Perform additional duties or special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Proficient in computer usage and capable of teaching others.
  • Ability to manage conflicts calmly and professionally.
  • Experience with homeless or low-income populations is preferred.
  • Understanding of historical and intergenerational trauma in Indigenous communities.
  • Strong crisis intervention skills and ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure.
  • Excellent customer service abilities.

Additional Requirements:

  • CPR & AED certification.
  • Formal training in de-escalation techniques.
  • Experience with Native American communities or a strong appreciation for Native cultures.

Education:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Highly organized, flexible, and detail-oriented with the ability to multitask.
  • Proficient in MS Office 365.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • High level of discretion and sound judgment.
  • Experience working with at-risk populations is advantageous.

Physical Demands:

  • Staff may encounter individuals experiencing various forms of trauma, including domestic violence and homelessness, which may pose a risk of secondary trauma. Support and mental health resources are available for staff.
  • Ability to lift, stretch, pull, and push up to 60 lbs.
  • Frequent standing, walking, and sitting is required.
