The DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center stands as the premier institution dedicated to the preservation and celebration of African American history and culture. Our mission is to collect, safeguard, and showcase artifacts that foster understanding and appreciation of the significant contributions and experiences of African Americans through various exhibits, programs, and activities.


Role Summary:

The Membership Engagement Coordinator plays a pivotal role in leading and supporting this esteemed cultural institution. This position is tasked with delivering administrative and customer service support focused on membership registration and management. Key responsibilities include overseeing and reporting on customer membership records across diverse databases, addressing member inquiries for individuals and groups, representing membership at selected museum events, and collaborating effectively with various museum departments as well as IT and development consultants.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Process membership applications and payments efficiently.
  • Review applications for completeness and ensure accurate membership classification.
  • Send welcome letters, invoices, and receipts to new members.
  • Develop and implement strategies for enhancing membership and volunteer programs, including identifying and soliciting projects.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing team to design and execute membership campaigns in a timely and creative manner.
  • Manage and maintain the membership database, including data entry, segmentation, and list management.
  • Create compelling membership opportunities and benefits to attract new members and retain existing ones.
  • Train staff on effective membership promotion techniques and problem-solving strategies.
  • Generate marketing materials and communications to promote membership and engage on-site guests.
  • Coordinate museum representation and membership promotions at community events and museum activities.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of member-exclusive events.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of all membership levels and their respective benefits.
  • Stay informed about current and upcoming exhibitions, events, and educational programs to relay information effectively to members.
  • Act as a liaison between the Museum and the Women's Board, coordinating meetings and related programs.
  • Manage volunteer needs and responsibilities associated with membership and annual giving.
  • Provide reports on membership trends, sales, promotions, and projections to the Finance department.
  • Collaborate with museum leadership and department managers to ensure exceptional service to staff, members, and guests.
  • Work alongside team members to define and achieve museum-wide goals and daily operations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in a museum or cultural organization is preferred.
  • Strong business acumen, including knowledge of operational standards, budgeting, and strategic planning.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to communicate effectively about art and culture.
  • Significant experience in a museum membership or volunteer management role is required.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Able to think critically and connect various aspects of museum content.
  • Ability to work professionally with individuals at all levels, including media representatives.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to foster positive collaboration across the museum.
  • Capacity to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to thrive in high-energy environments and adapt to new responsibilities.
  • A collaborative team player who integrates well with all staff.
