Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Chief Operating Officer, the Residential Support Specialist will engage with families in a communal emergency shelter environment, guiding them towards holistic support. This role also involves overseeing site operations, ensuring safety protocols, program regulations, and expectations are upheld through a family-centered approach.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Family Support: Assist in conducting screenings, intake processes, and orientation for new families.
  • Support families and youth in adhering to program requirements under the guidance of the Chief Operating Officer.
  • Ensure safety and security by performing regular checks of the facility during shifts.
  • Provide assistance with daily living skills to families as needed.
  • Document all significant incidents and safety concerns using the program's communication system.
  • Ensure completion of family chores and daily housekeeping tasks.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and volunteers to coordinate events and workshops.
  • Facilitate the orientation of new family members entering the program.
  • Provide emergency crisis intervention to families when necessary.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A strong passion for working with economically disadvantaged, culturally diverse, and at-risk families and youth.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication abilities.
  • Capability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficient in computer applications, particularly Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience in crisis management.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with community resources available for economically disadvantaged families.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of two years of experience working with populations facing mental health challenges, developmental disabilities, substance abuse issues, or economically disadvantaged youth and families.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in a Human Services-related field.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Bilingual abilities (English/Spanish, English/Haitian Creole, English/Portuguese) are a plus.
