Position Summary:

The Residential Support Specialist will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer and will play a crucial role in assisting families at a communal emergency shelter in Worcester. This position involves guiding families and youth towards holistic support while overseeing site operations, which includes implementing safety protocols and maintaining program standards through a family-centered approach.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Family Support: Facilitate screening, intake processes, and orientation for new families.
  • Assist families and youth in adhering to program expectations under the guidance of the Chief Operating Officer.
  • Conduct regular safety checks of the facility to ensure security and well-being.
  • Provide day-to-day life skills assistance to families as needed.
  • Document critical incidents and safety concerns using the program's communication system.
  • Ensure completion of family chores and daily housekeeping duties.
  • Support colleagues and volunteers in organizing events and workshops.
  • Coordinate the orientation of new family members entering the program.
  • Deliver emergency crisis management support to families.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Genuine passion for working with economically disadvantaged, culturally diverse, and at-risk families and youth.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication abilities, both oral and written.
  • Capability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience in crisis management.
  • Attention to detail and a solid understanding of community resources available for economically disadvantaged families.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of two years of experience working with populations experiencing mental health challenges, developmental disabilities, substance abuse issues, or economically disadvantaged youth and families.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in a Human Services-related field.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Bilingual capabilities (English/Spanish, English/Haitian Creole, English/Portuguese) are a plus.
