Position Summary:
The Residential Support Specialist will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer and will be instrumental in guiding families residing in our emergency shelter. This role emphasizes a family-centered approach, ensuring that families and youth receive the necessary support to thrive.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate the screening and orientation process for new families.
- Assist families in adhering to program guidelines under the supervision of the Chief Operating Officer.
- Conduct regular safety checks of the facility to maintain a secure environment.
- Provide daily life skills support to families as required.
- Document all significant incidents and safety concerns using the program's communication platform.
- Ensure completion of family chores and housekeeping duties on a nightly basis.
- Support colleagues and volunteers in organizing events and workshops.
- Coordinate the orientation of new family members entering the program.
- Deliver emergency crisis intervention as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Strong passion for working with diverse and economically disadvantaged families and youth.
- Exceptional customer service abilities.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Capability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience in crisis management.
- Attention to detail and a solid understanding of community resources for at-risk populations.
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least two years of experience working with individuals facing mental health challenges, developmental disabilities, or substance abuse issues.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate degree in a Human Services-related field.
- Valid driver's license.
- Bilingual abilities (English/Spanish, English/Haitian Creole, English/Portuguese) are a plus.
