Position Overview

The National WWII Museum is seeking a dedicated Oral Historian to engage with World War II veterans and document their personal narratives. This role is crucial for enriching the Museum's Oral History Collection and contributing to various exhibits and digital projects.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Conduct oral history interviews with veterans, ensuring their stories are accurately captured and preserved.
  2. Travel extensively to meet with interview subjects, with a commitment to 4-5 days of travel per week.
  3. Gather personal artifacts and archival materials to enhance the Museum's historical resources.
  4. Perform thorough research to validate and enrich the oral histories collected.
  5. Manage the scheduling and logistics of interviews, maintaining clear communication with participants.
  6. Complete necessary cataloguing and documentation tasks related to the oral histories.
Qualifications
  1. A Master's degree in military history, history, museum studies, or a related discipline.
  2. At least two years of experience in historical research, ideally within a museum or archival setting.
  3. Proven skills in conducting oral history interviews.
  4. Strong knowledge of World War II history.
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, along with strong organizational skills.
  6. Proficient in using presentation software, spreadsheets, word processing tools, and recording equipment.
  7. Willingness to travel frequently for the purpose of conducting interviews.
