Position Overview

The National WWII Museum is actively seeking a dedicated Oral Historian to join our efforts in preserving the legacies of World War II veterans. This role, referred to as the Sinise Oral Historian, is crucial for enriching our Oral History Collection through in-depth interviews and the gathering of personal narratives.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Engage in travel for 4-5 days weekly, including some weekends, to conduct interviews and collect materials.
  2. Gather personal stories, artifacts, and archival items to enhance the Oral History Collection.
  3. Perform thorough research to validate and enrich the historical context of collected oral histories.
  4. Establish contact and arrange interviews with candidates provided by the Gary Sinise Foundation.
  5. Complete oral history interviews and manage related tasks, including initial cataloguing and correspondence.
Qualifications
  1. Master's degree in military history, history, museum studies, or a related discipline.
  2. A minimum of two years of experience in historical research, ideally within a museum, archive, or historical society.
  3. Proven expertise in conducting oral history interviews.
  4. Strong knowledge of World War II history.
  5. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, alongside strong organizational abilities.
  6. Proficient in using presentation, spreadsheet, and word processing software, as well as recording equipment.
  7. Willingness and ability to travel frequently for the purpose of conducting interviews.
