Position Overview

The National WWII Museum is in search of an enthusiastic Educational Programs Intern. This paid internship is designed to support the Educational Programs team in managing the Museum's Operation Footlocker initiative. The role will primarily involve the daily administration, coordination, and assessment of Operation Footlocker, along with assisting in various Educational Programs projects such as Virtual Field Trips, Webinars, and the Museum's annual Electronic Field Trip.

The Educational Programs Intern will gain valuable experience through participation in professional development activities at the Museum, applying knowledge of WWII history and creativity in the design and implementation of educational initiatives aimed at K-12 audiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and organize materials, including educational resources, artifacts, shipping labels, and other supplies for the distribution of Footlockers.
  • Evaluate artifacts and complete condition assessments for potential restoration or replacement.
  • Manage communications regarding program bookings and provide customer service support.
  • Assist in the logistics, organization, and evaluation of the Operation Footlocker program.
  • Develop and implement elements of Educational Programs that resonate with a diverse audience, including historical research, identifying community partnerships, and connecting artifacts to educational lessons.
  • Create engaging content for existing Educational Programs, including written descriptions, new activities for artifact interaction (with a focus on upcoming Virtual Footlockers), and short video presentations.
  • Support the Educational Programs team with additional tasks as required.

Candidate Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate is pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in education, history, museum studies, or a related discipline. Strong organizational abilities, excellent interpersonal communication skills, and a passion for museum education are essential.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative is crucial.
  • Candidates with experience in education and public programming, particularly within museums or the hospitality sector, are encouraged to apply.
  • Effective communication skills with individuals and larger organizations, including educational institutions, are necessary.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills are required.
  • Creativity, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail are important attributes.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Familiarity with technology and various digital platforms is advantageous.
