Overview:
The Chief Nursing Officer is responsible for overseeing the quality of nursing care and associated patient services. This role provides both clinical and administrative leadership, guiding the development, execution, and assessment of nursing services. The position emphasizes leadership through Process Excellence methodologies in collaboration with key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engages with leadership across the organization, including the Board of Trustees, management, medical staff, and clinical teams, to participate in hospital-wide decision-making processes. This includes the formulation, execution, and evaluation of the institution's mission, strategic initiatives, budgets, resource distribution, operational plans, policies, and quality improvement activities.
- Creates, implements, and regularly reviews departmental policies and procedures that support service delivery in compliance with applicable regulations. Maintains an up-to-date understanding of industry trends, policies, and legislative changes, advising management as necessary.
- Designs and evaluates programs aimed at enhancing the recruitment, retention, professional development, and continuing education of nursing and patient care personnel.
- Acts as the local Nurse Executive, collaborating closely with affiliated healthcare entities. Plans, organizes, directs, and assesses care delivery within nursing and related departments, establishing care delivery guidelines and standards.
- Defines and upholds the quality standards for nursing practice and patient care across the organization.
- Explores innovative nursing techniques, practices, and technologies through ongoing education and professional development.
- Regularly participates in nursing affinity groups and patient care teams, fostering the exchange of best practices and system-wide initiatives.
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program is required.
- Current licensure or proof of application for licensure as a registered nurse.
- Bachelor's degree in nursing (BS/BSN) is required or must be obtained within five years.
- A minimum of five years of clinical nursing experience, with at least two years in a managerial or supervisory role.
- Demonstrated progressive experience in clinical and administrative nursing.
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proven track record of a strong work ethic.
- Advanced competencies in clinical nursing and healthcare administration.
