The Chief Information Technology Officer (CITO) will manage the Center for Information Technology at Hampton University and lead the Information Technology Advisory Committee.
This role is responsible for ensuring the effective provision of high-quality IT services to the University, encompassing all technology that supports its research and educational goals.
The CITO will drive the formulation and implementation of the University's IT strategy, providing direction to research, academic, and administrative units under the President's guidance.
We seek an individual with a robust technical background, outstanding leadership and management capabilities, and the ability to collaborate effectively with other university leaders to ensure technology aligns with the University's mission and objectives.
This position entails identifying, managing, and securing funding for Hampton's technology initiatives.
The CITO will lead a team of IT professionals dedicated to IT support, web development, IT Help Desk, network services, Computer Center operations, technical media productions, and events, among other responsibilities.
The role will propose strategies to leverage shared University resources and provide recommendations for enhancing IT services to achieve better cost efficiency and to elevate research and educational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and implement a strategic plan for the university's IT infrastructure, addressing hardware, software, networking, and systems that support research, academic, and administrative functions.
- Serve as a vital member of the university IT senior leadership team and a thought leader within the broader HU community.
- Direct and mentor the university's technology staff, including recruitment, training, and supervision.
- Oversee teams responsible for daily IT operations such as Storage, Email, Security, Disaster Recovery, and more.
- Collaborate with university leaders to ensure technology aligns with the institution's mission and objectives.
- Stay informed about emerging technology trends and best practices, leading the adoption of new technologies.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
- A minimum of ten years of experience in a leadership role within IT; experienced in managing complex projects.
- Demonstrated success in strategic planning, budget oversight, and team management.
- Exceptional communication, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities.
- Comprehensive knowledge of IT tools and systems, including ERP systems, cybersecurity, networking, and cloud computing.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse backgrounds and balance the needs of various university units.
Desired Technical and Soft Skills:- Experience in higher education and administrative systems.
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Proficient in managing security issues and supporting communications.
- Familiarity with Oracle RDBMS, PL/SQL, Red Hat Linux, WordPress, Cisco, and Java technologies.
- Preferred certifications include Red Hat Certified System Administrator, CompTIA Server, ServiceNow Certified System Administrator, among others.
