Position Overview
The Chief Nursing Officer is responsible for overseeing the quality of nursing care and associated patient services within the organization.
Key Responsibilities
This role involves providing both clinical and administrative leadership for patient care services, facilitating the development, execution, and assessment of these services.
Utilizes Process Excellence methodologies to foster collaboration with primary customer groups.
Collaboration and Leadership
Engages with leaders from various departments, including the Board of Trustees, management, medical staff, and clinical teams, to participate in hospital-wide decision-making processes. This includes the formulation, implementation, and evaluation of the hospital's mission, strategic objectives, budgets, resource allocations, operational plans, policies, and quality improvement initiatives.
Policy Development
Creates, implements, and regularly reviews departmental policies and procedures that guide service provision in compliance with relevant regulations.
Maintains an up-to-date understanding of industry trends, regulatory standards, and legislative changes, advising administration as necessary.
Workforce Development
Designs and evaluates programs aimed at enhancing the recruitment, retention, professional development, and educational advancement of nursing and patient care staff.
Acts as the local Nurse Executive, collaborating closely with affiliated organizations.
Care Delivery Management
Plans, organizes, directs, and assesses care delivery within nursing and related departments, establishing guidelines for care delivery, including nursing practice standards, patient care standards, nursing policies, and staffing plans.
Defines and upholds the quality standards of nursing practice and patient care across the organization.
Innovation and Best Practices
Explores new nursing techniques, practices, equipment, and products through educational opportunities and professional literature.
Regularly participates in nursing affinity groups and patient care teams, supporting the sharing of best practices and system-wide initiatives.
Qualifications
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program required.
• Current licensure or evidence of application for licensure as a professional registered nurse.
• Bachelor’s degree in nursing required or willingness to obtain within five years.
• Minimum of five years of clinical nursing experience, with at least two years in a managerial or supervisory role.
• Proven track record of progressive clinical and administrative experience in nursing.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Demonstrated work ethic and commitment to excellence in nursing practice.
