Position Overview
The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) will spearhead the Center for Information Technology at Hampton University and preside over the Information Technology Advisory Committee.

Role Responsibilities
This pivotal role is responsible for the efficient provision of high-caliber IT services to the institution, encompassing all technological aspects that support its educational and research objectives.

The CTO will orchestrate the formulation and execution of the university's IT strategy, offering leadership and direction to the various academic, research, and administrative divisions reporting to the President.

Key Duties
  • Formulate and execute a comprehensive strategic plan for the university's IT infrastructure, including hardware, software, networking, and systems that bolster academic and operational functions.
  • Act as a vital member of the university's IT senior leadership team and a thought leader within the broader university community.
  • Provide mentorship and oversight to the university's technology personnel, including recruitment, training, and performance management.
  • Oversee teams responsible for daily IT operations, including Storage, Email, Active Directory, Security, and Disaster Recovery.
  • Collaborate closely with university leadership to ensure technology aligns with institutional missions and prioritize technology investments.
  • Support faculty and staff in providing systems compatible with existing or new hardware and applications.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with external organizations to enhance the university's technological capabilities.
  • Prepare and present technology initiatives and findings to senior management.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and vendor relationships to ensure high-quality project delivery.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of technology policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with best practices and legal standards.
  • Administer the university's technology budget, ensuring appropriate resource allocation and alignment with financial objectives.
  • Stay informed about emerging trends and best practices in technology, guiding the university's technology staff in the adoption of new technologies.
  • Foster a culture of accountability and personal responsibility.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • A minimum of ten years' experience in a leadership capacity within an IT environment, capable of managing complex projects.
  • Proven experience in strategic planning, budget management, and staff supervision.
  • Exceptional communication, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong understanding of information systems, including ERP systems, cybersecurity, networking, and cloud solutions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse university leaders and staff, balancing the needs of various units.

Preferred Skills
  • Experience in higher education systems; familiarity with Ellucian Banner and Blackboard LMS is advantageous.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to maintain ongoing communication with users and executive management regarding technical services.
  • Knowledge of Oracle RDBMS, PL/SQL, Solaris, Red Hat Linux, WordPress, Cisco, and Java technologies.
  • Expertise in managing security concerns.
