Role Responsibilities and Qualifications

As a Critical Care Registered Nurse, you will be tasked with planning, executing, assessing, and documenting nursing care for patients in the emergency department. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Evaluating patients upon arrival to determine their medical needs.
  • Conducting and recording thorough patient assessments.
  • Identifying and addressing the educational and psychosocial needs of patients and their families.
  • Communicating changes in patient conditions to the healthcare team.
  • Administering medications and documenting their effects.
  • Collaborating with hospital staff to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Providing detailed reports during shift changes.
Required Qualifications
  • A minimum of one year of clinical nursing experience in an emergency setting.
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
  • An Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited institution.
  • Current enrollment in an Alternate Entry Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) program is acceptable.
  • A valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas or a Compact RN license, with Texas licensure required within 90 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification in accordance with St. David's Healthcare policy.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) or Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification required within six months of hire.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENCP) certification required within 24 months of hire.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification required within 24 months of hire.
  • National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required within 12 months of hire.
