Responsibilities and Qualifications

As an Emergency Department (ED) Registered Nurse (RN), your responsibilities will include conducting assessments, creating care plans, and implementing and evaluating care for assigned patients. You will work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to refine and achieve care plans while continuously monitoring the patient's physical, emotional, and social needs.

  • Conduct regular patient assessments and reassessments.
  • Perform triage assessments with rapid data collection for medical and traumatic emergencies.
  • Evaluate injury causation and ensure any neglect or abuse is reported to the appropriate authorities.
  • Develop care plans with interdisciplinary team members, including expected outcomes for each patient.
  • Accurately verify, document, and administer medications.
  • Provide health education to patients and families, along with appropriate documentation.
  • Assess the patient's progress towards achieving outcomes and document the effectiveness of interventions.

Qualifications Required:

  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical nursing experience as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Associate's degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited institution and/or current enrollment in an Alternate Entry Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program or higher.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
  • Current State of Texas Registered Nurse (RN) license or Compact Registered Nursing License (Texas license must be obtained within 90 days of hire if using a Compact License).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification in accordance with St. David's Healthcare policy.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) or Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification required within 6 months of hire.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENCP) certification is preferred.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification is preferred.
