Responsibilities and Qualifications

As a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department, your responsibilities will include planning, executing, evaluating, and documenting nursing care for assigned patients. You will assess patients upon their arrival, ensuring comprehensive care is provided throughout their stay.

Your duties will encompass:

  • Evaluating patients to determine their medical complaints and severity.
  • Conducting and documenting thorough patient assessments.
  • Identifying and addressing educational and psychosocial needs of patients and families.
  • Communicating changes in patient conditions to supervisors and physicians.
  • Administering and documenting medications accurately.
  • Collaborating with hospital personnel to address patient needs.
  • Providing detailed inter-shift reports.

Experience Required

A minimum of one year of clinical nursing experience as a Registered Nurse in an Emergency Department is preferred. Experience as a Patient Care Technician in an acute care setting or during a capstone rotation in healthcare facilities is advantageous.

Educational Background

A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred, although an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited program is acceptable. Current enrollment in an Alternate Entry Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) program is also recognized.

Licenses and Certifications

Candidates must possess a current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas or a Compact Registered Nursing License, with Texas licensure obtained within 90 days of hire. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required, along with Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) or Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification within six months of hire. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENCP) certification is required within 24 months, as well as Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification and National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification within specified timeframes.
