The Communications team at Mediabistro is focused on assisting organizations in effectively managing their public relations and stakeholder engagement initiatives.

We are currently seeking a Communications Officer who possesses a robust background in strategic communications and risk management to join our dynamic team.

Reporting to the Communications Lead, the successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting project teams in evaluating stakeholder and political risks associated with their initiatives and providing expert guidance on effective risk management strategies.

This position will involve active participation in project meetings and collaboration with teams to identify and mitigate stakeholder risks throughout project lifecycles.

The selected candidate will work closely with various technical teams and will also engage with senior advisors to ensure comprehensive communication strategies are implemented.

Main responsibilities will include:

  • Evaluating political and stakeholder risks for projects during the initial phases of development.
  • Offering strategic support to project teams and clients during implementation to effectively manage risks and facilitate successful project outcomes.
  • Reviewing essential project documentation, participating in milestone meetings, and assisting in the recruitment and management of communication consultants to enhance stakeholder engagement efforts.
  • Providing strategic advice and technical support to the leadership team and project teams for global communication initiatives.
  • Collaborating with the Communications Lead to identify reputational risks, support crisis management efforts, and develop relevant communication materials as needed.
  • Coordinating with the Communications team to showcase successful projects through detailed briefs and other communication tools.
Selection Criteria

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., communications, public relations, or related disciplines) with a minimum of 8 years of experience in communications, public affairs, or a related area. Experience with government agencies or community organizations is a plus.
  • Proven ability to cultivate and manage relationships with key stakeholders to foster strategic partnerships and mitigate reputational risks.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize diverse information and adapt to new challenges effectively.
  • Capability to navigate sensitive communications challenges that may impact the organization’s reputation and objectives.
  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to teamwork.
  • Proficient English writing and editing skills.
  • Familiarity with media organizations and an understanding of current communication trends and issues.
