JOB OVERVIEW

The Political Affairs Assistant collaborates closely with the Senior Director of Political Affairs and the national government relations team to promote the merit shop agenda. This role involves supporting fundraising initiatives, advocacy campaigns, compliance coordination, and other related activities. Additionally, the assistant will manage and facilitate fundraising events nationwide and assist with the annual Legislative Conference.

SALARY

$52,500 - $54,600

The offered salary will be influenced by various factors, including experience, education, internal equity, and skills, as well as other relevant requirements for the position and the organization.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Responsibilities:

General

  • Assist state chapters, chapter personnel, and National staff with political affairs and fundraising as necessary.
  • Collaborate with the team to create materials for communicating political and advocacy campaigns to chapter staff and members.
  • Work with legal advisors to maintain compliance with ABC's standards.
  • Monitor annual and cycle goals, regularly updating the government affairs team on progress.
  • Facilitate elements of ABC's annual Legislative Week.
  • Partner with the ABC Public Affairs department to draft and manage content for Newsline and Construction Executive.

ABC PAC

  • Collaborate with the Senior Director of Political Affairs to implement ABC's political and fundraising strategies, including donor pipeline development and outreach.
  • Draft communications for donors, including emails, briefings, call sheets, and thank you notes.
  • Manage ABC PAC databases and coordinate with national and chapter staff to track authorizations, engage with donors, generate reports, and resolve technical issues.
  • Oversee the production and distribution of ABC PAC badges and donor materials.
  • Work with the Government Affairs Team to organize and execute PAC fundraising events at National and state meetings.
  • Attend ABC PAC meetings as needed to take minutes and assist with follow-up actions.

Free Enterprise Alliance

  • Assist the Senior Director of Political Affairs in executing ABC's issue advocacy and fundraising strategies, including donor pipeline development and outreach.
  • Manage donor information and collaborate with national and chapter staff to track pledges and contributions.
  • Draft communications for donors, including emails, briefings, call sheets, and thank you notes.
  • Collaborate with the Government Affairs Team to plan and execute FEA fundraising events at National and state meetings.
  • Participate in FEA meetings as appropriate to take minutes and assist with action items.

Other

  • Report on the progress of the Government Affairs team's strategic goals in Leadership Updates and the balanced scorecard.
  • Edit and update the ABC website and national connections with relevant legislative and political information.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support ABC's merit shop philosophy.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Two (2) years of experience in a professional work environment is highly desired.
  • Experience with a professional or trade association is a plus.
  • Prior experience as a Political Affairs Assistant or in a similar role is preferred.

Work Environment:

This position is conducted in a typical office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is generally quiet to moderate.
