Role Summary

The Culture Coordinator position is designed for individuals with a strong understanding of educational strategies for opportunity youth, restorative justice practices, and the counseling of high school students in a blended learning context. Reporting to the Assistant Principal, the Culture Coordinator will be responsible for upholding the school's conduct standards, facilitating peer mediation, and administering appropriate consequences for minor infractions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a positive atmosphere in hallways and classrooms within the assigned area.
  • Assist in managing student movement throughout the school.
  • Implement suitable minor consequences in line with the school's conduct code, including addressing and documenting discipline referrals.
  • Intervene to prevent verbal and physical conflicts among students.
  • Collaborate with the Restorative Justice Coordinator to ensure students actively engage in repairing harm following negative interactions.
  • Input student discipline data into the school's information system.
  • Document communications with parents regarding student behavior.
  • Track individual student tardiness and communicate with parents as necessary.
  • Maintain records of student incident reports.
  • Facilitate peer mediation sessions to resolve conflicts.
  • Support in-school suspension and detention as required.
  • Serve as the in-school suspension coordinator when needed.
  • Participate in local professional development and training sessions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Capacity to build and maintain effective relationships with staff.
  • Willingness to walk and stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of TACT2 training.
  • Commitment to confidentiality regarding sensitive student information.
  • Skill in fostering professional and supportive relationships with students to aid their educational objectives.
  • Demonstrated teamwork, initiative, and collaboration with the school community.

Preferred Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Two or more years of experience working with at-risk youth in educational settings.
  • Experience in behavior intervention and school safety.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
  • Experience managing youth discipline for ages 13 to 19.
  • Background in socio-emotional learning environments.
  • Trained in TACT2 or willing to undergo training and certification.
