Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) invites you to become a part of our team within Marine Logistics Support (MLS) as a Marine Systems Field Engineer.

The responsibilities of the Marine Systems Field Engineer encompass overseeing the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of mechanical components of Northrop Grumman Marine Systems machinery aboard naval vessels, adhering to established Northrop Grumman protocols and specifications.

This role requires travel and may be based in various locations across the continental United States.

Work will be conducted at client sites, including major naval hubs.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Marine Systems Field Engineer, you will engage in project planning and management, serve as the primary point of contact for clients, provide technical guidance to shipyard personnel or Northrop Grumman staff, prepare technical documentation, manage expense reporting, and initiate design modifications when necessary. The role demands independence in both work and travel.

Additional responsibilities include:

Overseeing field assignments and managing all aspects of operations, including leading factory personnel, engineering teams, customer labor, subcontractors, and/or ship crews.

Work autonomously at client facilities, utilizing remote support and technical assistance as required.
Independently establish requirements and strategies for repairs or resolutions based on Northrop Grumman documentation and processes.

Each task presents unique challenges that must be communicated effectively to clients and management.

Responsibilities may shift to meet urgent objectives, deadlines, and milestones.

Document technical condition reports that capture essential data and measurements as interim or final updates for managed projects.

Maintain communication regarding project status with MLS management and clients.

Provide technical assistance to clients and guidance to operational staff during the installation, modification, troubleshooting, repair, and testing of marine propulsion and power generation systems.

Compile a recommended list of replacement materials to facilitate repairs and troubleshooting.
Offer engineering support during repair processes.
Identify the root cause of issues.
Supervise disassembly and inspection procedures.
Design custom tools, jigs, or equipment as necessary.
Create disassembly and inspection plans by applying engineering principles and methodologies.

Analyze machinery/system issues through client discussions, observing operations, defining troubleshooting strategies, and reviewing control system data.

Marine Systems Field Engineers are accountable for monitoring contract financials, scope adherence, and deviations, leading to Requests for Equitable Adjustment (REA) when necessary.

Work will take place at client sites, typically on Navy surface vessels and submarines.

The work environment is characterized by heavy manufacturing or operational settings, requiring physical agility to navigate confined spaces and climb ladders for access.

Field Service Engineers are active throughout the day, often climbing over equipment for inspections.

Basic Qualifications:

A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or a related field, with no prior experience required in shipboard marine machinery or similar systems.

Proficiency in reading engineering drawings and schematics.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong customer service orientation with a positive demeanor.

Ability to perform tasks onboard vessels, which may involve climbing steep stairways and vertical ladders, and working extended hours.

Willingness to frequently work extended shifts (often 12-hour days, 7 days a week).
Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:
Hands-on experience and theoretical understanding of steam-driven shipboard propulsion and power generation systems and their associated subsystems.
Familiarity with machine shop operations, various hand tools, measuring devices, and shipyard experience.

Salary Range:
$48,200 - $80,300

This salary range serves as a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers various factors when determining base salary offers, including the position's scope and responsibilities, as well as the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.

Employees may qualify for discretionary bonuses in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to recognize individual contributions and allow employees to share in company performance. Employees in higher-level positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.

Additionally, Northrop Grumman offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, life and disability insurance, a savings plan, company-paid holidays, and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and personal business.
