Everett, Washington, United States Helion Energy Full time
About Helion Energy

Helion Energy is a pioneering fusion power enterprise located in Everett, WA, dedicated to creating the world's inaugural fusion power facility, facilitating a future with limitless clean energy. Our aspiration is to establish a world characterized by sustainable, dependable, and cost-effective energy for all.

Since our inception in 2013, we have successfully secured over $600 million from notable investors, including Sam Altman, Mithril, and Capricorn Investment Group, to advance our mission. Our latest prototype, Trenta, achieved 10,000 high-power pulses and attained plasma temperatures of 100 million degrees Celsius (9 keV).

Currently, we are progressing towards Polaris, which will be the first apparatus to generate electricity from fusion, making this an opportune moment to join our team. Bring your expertise, experience, and commitment to contribute to a transformative cause. Together, we can turn the vision of unlimited clean energy from fusion into reality.

Key Responsibilities:

We are seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to take charge of the construction and process innovation for Helion's fusion generator prototypes, commencing with our next-generation machine, Polaris. You will tackle a variety of engineering challenges essential for the global deployment of fusion energy. As a key cultural influencer within a growing team, you will report directly to our Mechanical Engineering Manager.

Your Responsibilities Include:
  • Enhancing and optimizing new manufacturing techniques that elevate our design, construction, testing, and scaling processes for next-generation magnets and associated systems.
  • Taking ownership of and comprehending subsystem designs, including electromagnetic, structural, fluid, thermal, and control systems, while enhancing their specifications and manufacturability.
  • Drawing insights from historical engineering methodologies, innovating new hardware designs, and validating your solutions through testing.
  • Creating fusion hardware and tooling utilizing CAD software (e.g., NX, Solidworks).
  • Collaborating with experts to broaden your engineering skill set and domain expertise.
  • Engaging hands-on with seasoned technicians to implement your hardware and manufacturing processes.
  • Diagnosing hardware challenges as they occur on integrated fusion generators.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 7 years of professional experience managing comprehensive engineering projects, including schedule oversight.
  • Proficiency in applying engineering first principles and methodical thinking to complex challenges.
  • Practical experience across various engineering fields (mechanical, electrical, fluids).
  • Advanced skills in CAD software (e.g., NX, Solidworks).
The compensation range for this role is competitive and may encompass several career levels, refined based on the candidate's experience and qualifications.

Benefits and Compensation

Our comprehensive compensation package includes substantial equity and benefits, such as:
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage for employees and their families.
  • 31 Days of Paid Time Off (21 vacation days and 10 sick days).
  • 13 Paid holidays, plus a company-wide winter break.
  • Up to 5% employer match on 401(k).
  • Short-term disability, long-term disability, and life insurance.
  • Paid parental leave and support (up to 16 weeks).
