Boeing Commercial Airplanes is on the lookout for Manufacturing Equipment Specialists to enhance the equipment and tooling for the Interiors Responsibility Center (IRC) within the Fabrication Division. They will possess a strong inclination to engage directly on the factory floor, collaborating with mechanics, safety teams, and equipment services to provide hands-on support for the production system. In this role, we seek dedicated professionals committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
This role encompasses equipment maintenance, development, implementation, and enhancement. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Assessing program and project specifications, devising intricate equipment concepts, and designing solutions for the production system.
- Gathering and evaluating technical data to assess impacts on product engineering design, usability, and rate estimates.
- Ensuring adherence to safety, manufacturability, maintainability, reliability, ergonomic factors, and regulatory standards.
- Diagnosing current production equipment challenges related to quality, safety, and consistency.
- Creating and executing work-arounds while maintaining hardware configuration and documentation.
- Conducting studies and making recommendations regarding asset disposition.
- Drafting and releasing bid and purchase specifications for equipment requirements from suppliers.
- Providing engineering expertise on equipment repairs, new implementations, and development projects.
- Generating comprehensive data packages (e.g., usage instructions, procurement information, test plans) to meet design, installation, and release criteria.
- Validating technical data analysis, influencing product engineering design, and making recommendations for robotics, automation, or technical integration to support aerospace production systems.
- Leading gated reviews and formulating plans for production readiness, preventive maintenance, and spare parts management.
- Overseeing the creation and modification of equipment and tooling definitions at the program level.
- Collaborating with Process Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering on equipment requirements and performance metrics.
- Executing project plans, contributing to Make/Buy decisions, and partnering with Procurement to achieve program schedule, cost, and quality objectives.
- Managing equipment engineering work packages assigned to design suppliers and supporting technical inquiries during equipment manufacturing.
- Participating in factory acceptance and site acceptance testing to ensure compliance with requirements.
- Investigating design-engineering modifications to maintain engineering configuration and initiate necessary actions.
- Validating contractual performance milestones.
- In Electrical Controls roles: Programming, integrating, and/or troubleshooting complex production equipment, including but not limited to industrial robots, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Numerical Controls (NC), Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), and automatic drives.
- Working within a cross-functional team alongside specialists from manufacturing, quality assurance, safety, post-production services, product development, suppliers, and vendors.
- Utilizing equipment reliability and predictive maintenance standards to assess equipment condition, enhance availability, and forecast lifecycle and replacement schedules.
Work Authorization Statement:
This position must comply with Export Control requirements, necessitating a "US Person" as defined by applicable regulations.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering or Aerospace-related field from an ABET accredited program.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in an engineering discipline.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience with production systems in a manufacturing or engineering capacity.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- 3 or more years of relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (mid-level).
- 5 or more years of relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (senior level).
- 3 or more years of experience in an Equipment or Tool Engineering role.
- 3 or more years of experience in a production environment.
- 3 or more years of experience with production equipment.
- 1 or more years in a leadership role.
- 1 or more years of experience adhering to industry standards, including compliance with hardware and safety codes.
- 1 or more years of experience in hardware configuration management.
- Project Management knowledge.
- Strong communication skills.
- Self-motivated individual capable of mentoring less experienced engineers.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with both the engineering workforce and factory mechanics.
Typical Education/Experience:
- Associate Level: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry (e.g., Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g., Master).
- Experienced Level: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry (e.g., Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g., PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience).
- Senior Level: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry (e.g., Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g., PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience).
