Position Summary:

The Project Engineer - ME III plays a pivotal role in supporting the engineering team with extensive technical experience, leading specific projects, and progressing towards a leadership position within the group.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary technical liaison with clients on designated projects.
  • Develop and refine design concepts from initial specifications with minimal oversight.
  • Transform design concepts into practical engineering solutions.
  • Create detailed manufacturing drawings that incorporate tolerances, welding symbols, and surface finishes.
  • Review and validate detailed part and assembly drawings.
  • Conduct comprehensive engineering calculations to substantiate designs.
  • Oversee and endorse engineering calculations that support design integrity.
  • Generate, review, and approve technical documentation and reports.
  • Compile technical files in alignment with contract and quality program standards.
  • Provide consultative assistance to team members regarding standards and procedures.
  • Specify components and systems based on analytical calculations and relevant experience.
  • Facilitate change control and manage scope variations in contracts.
  • Collaborate within a design team and engage with other engineering disciplines.
  • Conduct HAZOP studies and Safety Cases.
  • Support project engineering leads and managers with technical expertise.
  • Ensure adherence to established processes and procedures.
  • Assist in business development efforts by providing quotations for prospective projects.
  • Implement cost-saving innovations to reduce design timelines.
  • Manage CAD data and documentation effectively.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in mechanical engineering and design.
  • Experience in designing nuclear or specialized machinery for hazardous environments is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with nuclear design protocols.
  • Professional Engineer designation or in the process of obtaining it.
  • Preferred experience with calculations such as FEA, stress, fatigue, and vibration analysis.
  • Solid understanding of drawing principles and standards, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Proficient in complex mechanical equipment, fabrication techniques, materials, and processes.
  • Competence in both 2D (AutoCAD) and 3D design software (Inventor, Vault system, SolidWorks).
  • Knowledge of relevant Environmental Health & Safety legislation.
  • Basic business acumen and commercial insight.
  • Familiarity with EFDs, P&IDs, and MFDs.
  • Experience designing equipment under ISO 9001 or NQA-1 Quality Assurance Programs.
  • This role may involve working with export-controlled items.

Working Conditions:

The position is primarily office-based, with occasional work in fabrication/machine shops and outdoor testing areas. Travel to client job sites may be required depending on project needs.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work on a computer for extended periods and utilize standard office equipment.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with team members, clients, and vendors.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 25-50 pounds.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and crawl to access and inspect equipment or systems.
