Position Summary:

We are seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer - ME III to enhance our team. At JFT, we prioritize recruiting and retaining top talent, allowing every employee the opportunity to shape their career in a culture that promotes initiative, respect, curiosity, and enthusiasm.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary technical liaison with clients on designated projects.
  • Develop and refine design concepts from fundamental specifications with minimal oversight.
  • Transform design concepts into functional engineering solutions.
  • Create detailed manufacturing drawings, including limits, fits, welding symbols, geometric tolerances, and surface finishes.
  • Review and validate detailed part and assembly drawings.
  • Conduct comprehensive engineering calculations to substantiate designs.
  • Generate, review, and approve technical documentation and reports.
  • Compile technical files in alignment with contract and quality program specifications.
  • Provide consultative support to team members regarding standards and procedures.
  • Specify components and systems based on calculations and relevant experience.
  • Assist in managing change control and variations to contracts.
  • Collaborate within a design team and engage with other engineering disciplines.
  • Conduct HAZOP studies and Safety Cases.
  • Support project engineering leads and managers with technical assistance.
  • Ensure adherence to established processes and procedures.
  • Contribute to business development efforts by preparing quotations for new projects.
  • Implement cost-saving innovations to reduce design timelines.
  • Oversee CAD data and documentation management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in mechanical engineering and design.
  • Experience in nuclear or high-hazard remote machinery design is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with nuclear design protocols.
  • Professional Engineer designation or in progress.
  • Preferred experience with calculations (FEA, stress/fatigue/vibration analysis).
  • Understanding of drawing principles and standards, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Proficient in complex mechanical equipment and fabrication processes.
  • Competence in both 2D (AutoCAD) and 3D design software (Inventor, Vault system/SolidWorks).
  • Knowledge of relevant EH&S regulations.
  • Basic business acumen and commercial insight.
  • Familiarity with EFD's, P&ID's, and MFD's.
  • Experience designing equipment under ISO 9001 or NQA-1 Quality Assurance Programs.

Working Environment:

This role is primarily office-based, with occasional work in fabrication/machine shops and outdoor testing areas. Travel to client job sites may be required depending on project needs.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to work on a computer for extended periods and utilize standard office equipment.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with team members, clients, and vendors.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of objects, materials, or equipment, typically weighing up to 25-50 pounds.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and crawl to access and inspect equipment or systems.

Experience Requirements:

  • At least 8 years of mechanical engineering and design experience.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience with CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, NX).
  • Working knowledge of complex mechanical equipment design and fabrication under ISO 9001 or NQA-1 Quality Assurance Programs.

This position may involve working with export-controlled items.
