Position Summary:

We are seeking a qualified Project Engineer - ME III to enhance our team. This role is pivotal in providing substantial engineering expertise, leading specific projects, and evolving into a leadership position within the engineering group.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary technical liaison with clients on designated projects.
  • Develop and refine design concepts from initial specifications with minimal oversight.
  • Transform design concepts into functional engineering solutions.
  • Create detailed manufacturing drawings that include limits, fits, welding symbols, geometric tolerances, and surface finishes.
  • Review and validate detailed part and assembly drawings.
  • Conduct comprehensive engineering calculations to substantiate designs.
  • Oversee and approve engineering calculations that support design integrity.
  • Generate, review, and endorse technical documentation and reports.
  • Compile technical files in alignment with contract and quality program stipulations.
  • Provide guidance to team members regarding standards, procedures, and techniques.
  • Specify components and systems based on calculations and practical insights.
  • Assist in managing change control and contract variations.
  • Collaborate within a design team and engage with other engineering disciplines.
  • Conduct HAZOP studies and develop Safety Cases.
  • Support project engineering leads and managers with technical assistance.
  • Ensure adherence to established processes and procedures.
  • Contribute to business development efforts by preparing quotations for prospective projects.
  • Implement innovative strategies to reduce design timelines and costs.
  • Manage CAD data and associated documentation effectively.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in mechanical engineering and design.
  • Experience in designing nuclear or specialized machinery is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with nuclear design protocols.
  • Professional Engineer designation or in progress.
  • Experience with engineering calculations (FEA, stress/fatigue/vibration analysis) is preferred.
  • Understanding of drawing standards, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Proficient in complex mechanical equipment and fabrication processes.
  • Competence in both 2D (AutoCAD) and 3D design software (Inventor, Vault system, SolidWorks).
  • Knowledge of relevant environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Basic business understanding and commercial insight.
  • Familiarity with EFD's, P&ID's, and MFD's.
  • Experience in designing under ISO 9001 or NQA-1 Quality Assurance Programs.

Work Environment:

This role is primarily office-based, with occasional responsibilities in fabrication/machine shops and outdoor testing areas. Travel to client job sites may be required based on project needs.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work on a computer for extended periods and utilize standard office equipment.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for interaction with team members, clients, and vendors.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of materials or equipment, typically weighing up to 25-50 pounds.
  • Capability to perform tasks such as stooping, kneeling, and climbing to inspect equipment or systems.

Experience:

  • At least 8 years of mechanical engineering and design experience.
  • Proficient in CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, NX).
  • Experience in designing complex mechanical equipment under ISO 9001 or NQA-1 Quality Assurance Programs.

This position may involve working with export-controlled items.
