Position Summary:

We are seeking a Project Engineer - ME III to enhance our team in Loveland, CO. At JFT, we prioritize attracting and retaining exceptional talent, allowing every employee the opportunity to shape their career in a culture that values initiative, perseverance, respect, curiosity, and enthusiasm.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a primary technical liaison with clients on designated projects.
  • Develop and refine design concepts from fundamental specifications with minimal oversight.
  • Transform design concepts into functional engineering solutions.
  • Create detailed manufacturing drawings that include limits and fits, welding symbols, geometric tolerances, and surface finishes.
  • Review and validate detailed part and assembly drawings.
  • Conduct comprehensive engineering calculations to support design initiatives.
  • Review and endorse engineering calculations to ensure design integrity.
  • Generate, evaluate, and approve technical reports and documentation.
  • Compile technical files in accordance with contract and quality program stipulations.
  • Provide consultative guidance to team members regarding standards, procedures, and techniques.
  • Specify components and systems based on analytical calculations and practical experience.
  • Assist in managing change control and contract scope variations.
  • Collaborate within a design team and engage with other engineering disciplines.
  • Conduct HAZOP studies and develop Safety Cases.
  • Support project engineering leads and managers with technical expertise.
  • Ensure adherence to established processes and procedures.
  • Assist business development efforts by providing quotations for prospective projects.
  • Implement cost-saving innovations to reduce design timelines.
  • Oversee CAD data management and documentation processes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in mechanical engineering and design.
  • Experience in designing nuclear or high-hazard remote special-purpose machinery is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with nuclear design protocols.
  • Professional Engineer status or in the process of obtaining it.
  • Preferred experience with calculations such as FEA, stress, fatigue, and vibration analysis.
  • Understanding of drawing principles and standards, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Proficient in complex mechanical equipment and fabrication techniques, manufacturing processes, and materials.
  • Competent in using both 2D (AutoCAD) and 3D design software (Inventor, Vault system, SolidWorks).
  • Knowledge of relevant Environmental Health & Safety legislation.
  • Possess basic business acumen and commercial insight.
  • Familiarity with EFDs, P&IDs, and MFDs.
  • Experience in designing equipment under ISO 9001 or NQA-1 Quality Assurance Programs.

Working Environment:

This role primarily involves an office setting, with occasional tasks performed in fabrication/machine shops and outdoor testing areas. Depending on project requirements, there may be infrequent travel to client job sites.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to work on a computer for extended periods and utilize standard office equipment.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for interaction with team members, clients, and vendors.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of objects, materials, or equipment, typically weighing up to 25-50 pounds.
  • Capability to stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and crawl to access and inspect equipment or systems.

Experience Requirements:

  • At least 8 years of mechanical engineering and design experience.
  • At least 8 years of proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, NX).
  • Familiarity with complex mechanical equipment design and fabrication under ISO 9001 or NQA-1 Quality Assurance Programs.

This position may involve working with export-controlled items.
