The Senior Manager of Institutional Giving is responsible for spearheading and overseeing comprehensive fundraising initiatives aimed at securing and enhancing financial support from corporate entities and philanthropic foundations through contributions, grants, sponsorships, and select fee-for-service offerings to the business sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leads and manages a team of 2-4 professionals dedicated to expanding support from the corporate and foundation sectors, developing a robust funding pipeline, and increasing revenue to advance the museum's mission and strategic objectives; establishes team-wide goals, metrics, and reporting frameworks to achieve these targets.
  • Oversees a portfolio of funders while collaborating with various divisions, particularly Advancement Services (operations), Marketing, and Strategic Partnerships, to align on funding priorities, identify opportunities, and streamline internal processes.
  • Collaborates with colleagues to create and present proposals, develop pitch materials, implement stewardship and recognition programs, fulfill sponsorship commitments, and manage multiple engagement points with corporate and foundation partners.
  • Takes a leadership role in fundraising and capital campaigns, actively participating in organizational planning efforts.
  • Implements best practices for fundraising both internally and externally in collaboration with the Senior Director of Strategic Partnerships & Government Relations.
  • Works with the broader team to design and execute community-focused fundraising strategies that enhance engagement and support, aligning with the museum's equity goals and values.
  • Ensures effective CRM data management processes for the Institutional Giving team in partnership with operations staff, Strategic Partnerships team, and prospect research to guarantee comprehensive data support, tracking, analysis, and necessary reporting for funder and sponsor growth strategies.
  • Builds and nurtures internal and external relationships that advance the museum's mission by fostering connections between the local funder and business community, philanthropic influencers, and the museum.
  • Acts as a public representative of the museum's mission, impact, and vision, highlighting its significance as a vital cultural asset at local, regional, and national levels.
  • Encourages a culture of philanthropy both internally and externally, engaging senior leaders, program directors, and board members as appropriate.
  • In collaboration with museum leadership, presents proposals, negotiates and finalizes sponsorship agreements, and develops and executes contracts on behalf of the museum.
  • Performs additional related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Experience:
    • Demonstrated experience in fundraising and/or sponsorship sales with major corporate and foundation partners.
    • Familiarity with the corporate and philanthropic landscape, particularly in Minnesota, and knowledge of STEM-related issues and science programs is advantageous.
    • Understanding of current trends in corporate philanthropy, sponsorship, and grants management.
    • Experience in a nonprofit environment is highly desirable.
    • Leadership experience is preferred.
    • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
    • Experience in a dynamic, equity-focused workplace is essential.
    • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as required by donor needs and event schedules.
    • Occasional local travel may be necessary.
  • Certifications: No formal certifications required.
  • Work Environment: Onsite presence required with flexible hybrid options based on business needs.
