This posting is intended to fill two positions, one serving the entire state of Minnesota and the other focused on specific counties.

Role Summary

The Rehabilitation Counselor is responsible for assisting adults in achieving competitive, integrated employment outcomes. This includes planning, authorizing, and coordinating individualized Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) services in collaboration with customers who are blind, visually impaired, or DeafBlind. The role is integral to the mission of the Workforce Development Unit of State Services for the Blind.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the case services budget effectively.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to develop and prepare an Individualized Plan for Employment (IPE) in compliance with relevant laws and policies.
  • Collaborate with customers to implement and complete an IPE that leads to gainful employment.
  • Provide tailored placement services to support the achievement of the consumer's vocational rehabilitation goals.
  • Contribute to the mission of the Workforce Development Unit through various activities.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

To be considered, candidates must clearly outline how they meet the minimum qualifications in their resume.

Senior Rehabilitation Counselor:

Master's degree in relevant fields such as Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or related disciplines.

Career Rehabilitation Counselor:

Master's degree in relevant fields along with three (3) years of related work experience demonstrating knowledge in counseling, caseload management, and job placement services.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with individuals who are blind, visually impaired, or DeafBlind. Proficiency in a second language is advantageous.

Additional Requirements:

Successful completion of a Criminal Background Check and other evaluations will be conducted for finalists. Candidates must be legally authorized to work without sponsorship.

This position requires participation in an Adjustment to Blindness immersion training program to better understand the experiences of individuals who are blind or visually impaired.
