Position Title: Vice President of Institutional Fundraising

Department: Resource Development

Reports To: Executive Vice President of Resource Development

Supervisory Responsibilities: Grant Writer, Database Administrator, Development Associate

Exempt Status: Yes

Role Purpose: The Vice President of Institutional Fundraising will lead the strategic direction of our fundraising initiatives and operational functions within the Resource Development department. This role involves close collaboration with the Executive Vice President and other leadership to fulfill departmental objectives, including the development of strategies to secure funding from foundations and governmental entities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all aspects of the Institutional Fundraising program.
  • Develop an annual strategic plan with defined goals, objectives, budget, and retention strategies.
  • Monitor and, when necessary, draft and edit proposals for timely submission.
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with institutional partners through regular communication and site visits.
  • Implement recognition and stewardship initiatives that enhance institutional partnerships.
  • Ensure accurate record-keeping for all current and prospective funders within our donor management system.
  • Manage relationships with external grant writers as needed to support departmental objectives.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the Resource Development team, ensuring clear objectives for success.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Vice President and other leaders to engage institutional donors effectively.
  • Support the Director of Fundraising and Community Engagement in securing institutional support.
  • Participate in special campaigns and fundraising initiatives in collaboration with senior leadership.
  • Work with various departments to identify and raise funds for specific organizational needs.
  • Lead the development of the organization’s annual report.
  • Monitor the use of our donor management system to meet departmental needs and maximize fundraising effectiveness.
  • Ensure best practices for gift receipt and acknowledgment.
  • Develop and manage a robust prospect research function.
  • Facilitate data sharing to support financial management and donor stewardship.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in fundraising, particularly with institutional donors.
  • Familiarity with institutional funding systems and best practices.
  • Ability to articulate organizational needs through well-crafted proposals.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage cross-functional processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a professional demeanor.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and donor management software, preferably The Raisers Edge.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as necessary.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods.
  • Ability to type and perform data entry.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds.
  • Ability to complete filing tasks.
