Position Summary:
This role involves professional auditing services for the Office of the State Auditor, which serves as the independent external auditor for the State of Maine. The incumbent will engage in financial and compliance audits of state governmental entities. The work schedule is structured for five days a week, allowing for independent auditing of moderately complex areas and programs. The auditor will also assist lead auditors in planning, designing, and executing intricate audit assignments in alignment with established auditing standards.

Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct audits in accordance with auditing standards accepted in the United States.
- Provide technical support to senior staff in interpreting laws, regulations, and changes in accounting principles.
- Review and evaluate the work of other professional accounting staff to ensure compliance with established accounting principles.
- Perform compliance audits to verify adherence to federal laws and regulations.
- May supervise other auditors to ensure accuracy and conformity with auditing standards.

Qualifications:
Applicants should possess a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field, along with two years of progressively responsible auditing experience, or equivalent experience in a governmental setting. Alternatively, candidates may have eight years of relevant accounting or auditing experience, or hold certifications such as CPA, CIA, or CISA.

- Ability to conduct thorough audits of governmental entities.
- Skill in interpreting federal and state laws and regulations.
- Capacity to prepare audit findings and suggest corrective actions.
