Position Overview


The System Protection and Automation Engineering division within the Power Sector at TRC Companies is looking for an Automation & Integration Engineer II to collaborate with a talented team of engineers on a variety of projects including utility, municipal, industrial, and renewable energy initiatives across the nation.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure compliance with TRC's internal quality control and assurance standards.
  • Adhere to client specifications and requirements.
  • Engage with clients, various company departments, external consultants, contractors, suppliers, and manufacturers.
  • Contribute as a team member on assigned projects.
  • Work alongside leadership and senior engineers to uphold client satisfaction, product quality, project timelines, and budgetary constraints.
  • Design, configure, document, and commission integration systems and equipment.
Specific Duties Include:
  • Conceptual and detailed design, specification, procurement, integration, configuration, and commissioning of electrical utility systems, including:
    • Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Systems
    • Protective Relays
    • Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs)
    • Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs)
    • Remote Terminal Units (RTUs)
    • Communication Networks
  • Coordinate design engineering and equipment delivery to align with construction schedules.
  • Capture, parse, analyze, and troubleshoot network communications.
  • Conduct project requirement conformance reviews.
  • Perform site walk-downs and plan solution execution.
  • Develop and verify documentation.
  • Review project information, including budget, schedule, and client satisfaction, with leadership.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Promote thorough and accurate documentation and take responsibility for work quality.
  • Engage in professional development, training, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Project Engineers to assess equipment specifications and the application of new technologies based on client objectives and industry standards.
  • Develop and integrate custom logic and control schemes.
  • Support automation and integration aspects of multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Facilitate efficient information flow and ensure comprehensive record-keeping.
  • Encourage a team-oriented environment and support colleagues.
  • Travel as necessary, with flexibility in the amount required.
  • Provide effective technical support for departmental needs and requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
Qualifications:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365, particularly Excel.
  • Experience with RTU/Data Concentrators.
  • Familiarity with IEC 61131 Programming and Automation Logic.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent education and experience in a related field; utility experience is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in automation and integration.
  • Able to collaborate with senior engineers to execute necessary design tasks.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of SCADA systems.
  • Experience with DNP3, Modbus, AcSELerator RTAC, SEL 5030 Quickset, GE Cimplicity, and Protocol Test Software is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of serial and Ethernet communication systems.
  • Experience with IEC 61850 is preferred.
  • Some travel may be required.
  • Experience in renewable energy projects is preferred.
