Position Title: Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) - Supported Employment Program

Type: Part-Time

Location: Tuscaloosa, AL

Core Responsibilities:

  • Assist individuals in achieving their employment goals through the IPS-SEP framework.
  • Facilitate meetings with clients, fostering self-determination and recovery, while demonstrating self-advocacy techniques.
  • Participate in treatment team discussions to encourage the use of self-directed advocacy tools.
  • Support clients in goal-setting and career profile development.
  • Guide clients in accessing appropriate community services.
  • Provide information regarding benefits such as SSI, SSDI, and Medicaid.
  • Encourage participation in additional programs and services to promote employment.
  • Model self-advocacy skills for addressing workplace accommodations and disclosure issues.
  • Educate clients on wellness management and assist in creating personalized self-management plans.
  • Enhance understanding of peer support roles among team members to ensure client perspectives are integrated into service delivery.
  • Teach transportation skills to facilitate access to employment opportunities.
  • Share personal experiences to illustrate successful employment strategies.
  • Support clients in making informed choices regarding employment and community engagement.
  • Develop social skills to improve job acquisition and retention.
  • Assist clients in overcoming employment barriers and addressing workplace challenges.
  • Help clients gather necessary documentation for employment applications.
  • Research potential job opportunities in alignment with client interests.
  • Support clients in completing job applications, resumes, and cover letters.
  • Explore clients' career and educational goals.
  • Teach job-seeking skills, including computer usage.
  • Accompany clients to recovery support groups and relevant meetings as appropriate.
  • Provide guidance on financial wellness and asset management.
  • Offer outreach services to re-engage clients who may be disengaging from the program.
  • Seek supervision and consultation as needed.
  • Demonstrate care, dignity, and compassion in all interactions with clients.
  • Embrace feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Educate new clients about available services and the recovery process.
  • Utilize problem-solving techniques with clients.
  • Assist clients in maintaining their self-care routines.
  • Establish and nurture therapeutic relationships to identify and address emotional or behavioral changes.
  • Guide clients in combating negative self-talk and overcoming fears.
  • Contribute to staff meetings and interdisciplinary treatment planning.
  • Document relevant information in client records accurately and promptly.
  • Model effective communication, recovery-oriented living skills, and coping strategies.
  • Stay informed about current trends in mental health through ongoing education.
  • Share recovery-oriented resources with colleagues during educational assemblies.
  • Participate in continuing education opportunities as available.
  • Act as a recovery advocate by promoting effective recovery-based services.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to safety and health regulations while on duty.
  • Maintain awareness of organizational communications and updates.
  • Work independently and collaboratively to fulfill assigned responsibilities efficiently.
  • Support adherence to ethical standards and compliance with regulations.
  • Follow attendance and punctuality policies diligently.
  • Comply with health and safety standards, including maintaining necessary certifications.
  • Identify opportunities for service quality improvement.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisory staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current or former consumer of mental health services.
  • Willingness to obtain Peer Specialist Certification from the relevant state department.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.

Working Conditions: The role requires physical presence and engagement in various settings, including outpatient centers, community environments, and residential programs. The position may involve exposure to challenging situations and requires effective communication and operational skills with office equipment.
