Position Title: Certified Peer Support Specialist

Core Responsibilities:

  • Guide new clients in understanding their mental health service providers.
  • Inform clients about available services and the recovery journey.
  • Assist clients in completing applications for assistance programs.
  • Maintain accurate records for assistance programs and coordinate with pharmacies.
  • Facilitate educational sessions for clients and their families as directed.
  • Document services provided in electronic health records promptly and accurately.
  • Teach problem-solving strategies to individuals.
  • Support clients in meeting their self-care needs.
  • Establish and nurture therapeutic relationships to identify changes requiring intervention.
  • Empower clients to recognize and challenge negative self-perceptions.
  • Communicate essential information to nursing and support staff regarding client matters.
  • Provide transportation for clients as necessary for appointments and activities.
  • Participate in staff meetings and contribute to treatment planning.
  • Ensure accurate documentation in client records.
  • Model effective communication and recovery-oriented living skills.
  • Stay informed on current trends in mental health through ongoing education.
  • Share recovery-oriented resources with colleagues.
  • Attend professional development workshops as available.
  • Advocate for effective recovery-based services.
  • Adhere to organizational policies and standards.
  • Follow safety and health protocols while on duty.
  • Maintain awareness of organizational communications and updates.
  • Work independently and collaboratively to fulfill responsibilities efficiently.
  • Comply with ethical standards and regulations in all job functions.
  • Maintain punctuality and attendance as per organizational policies.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Identify opportunities for service quality improvement.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be a current or former consumer of mental health services.
  • At least two years of recovery experience required.
  • Willingness to obtain Peer Specialist Certification from the relevant state authority.
  • High school diploma or equivalent necessary.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and understanding English.

Working Conditions:

This role requires physical presence and engagement in various settings. Employees must effectively communicate with clients and colleagues and operate office equipment. Physical capabilities include lifting up to fifty pounds and navigating stairs. There may be risks associated with managing challenging client behaviors.
