Position Overview:
Join the Norwalk Hospital Association as a vital member of our team dedicated to providing exceptional service to preoperative surgical patients and their families.

Summary:
Your primary responsibility will be to warmly welcome patients and their families upon arrival. You will facilitate the check-in process for preoperative surgical patients using our SMARTRACK system, ensuring a smooth and efficient patient flow. Additionally, you will escort patients to their designated rooms and serve as a knowledgeable resource for families regarding the SMARTRACK communication screen in the waiting area.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Telephone Management: Efficiently handle incoming calls, directing them to the appropriate personnel while ensuring the phone is attended at all times. Demonstrate proficiency in transferring calls and communicate effectively.
  • Patient Check-In: Accurately register patients into the SMARTRACK system, ensuring a seamless transition from check-in to admission for ambulatory surgery.
  • Admission Assistance: Identify preoperative patients accurately and place identification bands on the appropriate extremities when necessary. Collect and copy pharmacy and insurance cards to streamline the discharge process.

Family Communication:
Act as a liaison for families, providing updates on patients' progress during surgery. Help families interpret the SMARTRACK communication screen and inform the surgical team and recovery staff when family members are present.

Additional Duties:
Perform other assigned tasks as needed and ensure compliance with all responsibilities related to the position.

Qualifications:
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Minimum of one year in a receptionist or office clerk role.
  • Skills: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both in person and over the phone.

Working Conditions:
Enjoy a pleasant working environment with minimal occupational risk. The role requires some manual skills and light physical effort, with the ability to exert up to 10 lbs. of force.
