Position Overview

Summary:

The Assistant Manager of Patient Care plays a crucial role in supporting the Patient Care Manager in the execution and oversight of the patient care delivery framework and associated nursing practice standards. This position collaborates closely with the nursing leadership team to ensure the highest quality of patient care while managing the unit's daily operations and evaluating nursing staff performance.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Collaborates in the planning, organization, and assessment of nursing practice standards within the unit.

2. Takes responsibility for supervising personnel and optimizes patient care through effective resource management to deliver safe and high-quality services.

3. Mentors and coaches nursing staff, fostering a collaborative and positive work environment that promotes high employee engagement and values diversity.

4. Participates in the interviewing, disciplinary actions, and ongoing performance evaluations of nursing personnel.

5. Ensures compliance with established training requirements, making certain that all team members fulfill their training obligations within designated timelines.

6. Aids the Patient Care Manager in achieving departmental objectives and is accountable for departmental performance.

7. Provides insights to the Patient Care Manager regarding effective financial management to ensure optimal use of financial resources.

8. Ensures the efficient use of operational and human resources to support departmental financial goals.

9. Facilitates communication across departments and disciplines to enhance operational effectiveness, working collaboratively with physicians and other organizational leaders.

10. Guarantees departmental compliance with regulatory standards through established policies and practices, identifying opportunities for performance improvement and patient safety initiatives.

11. Cultivates an environment that promotes service excellence and serves as a role model for interactions with staff, patients, and families.

12. Commits to personal and professional development to maintain current knowledge in the nursing field, translating evidence-based data into practice.

13. In partnership with the Department of Professional Development, encourages staff participation in shared governance and acts as a mentor for nurses in understanding this model.

14. Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education: BSN or an advanced nursing degree required (or completion within two years).

Experience: Minimum of two years of relevant clinical experience, including at least one year in a leadership role or demonstrated leadership capabilities. Nursing certification in leadership or a related specialty is preferred.

Licensure: Valid RN license in the relevant state.

Working Conditions:

Manual dexterity and significant motor coordination are required. The role may involve some occupational risks and requires light physical effort, with the potential to exert up to 10 lbs. of force. There may be exposure to various environmental factors.
